RL at Vision for Souls

We were invited out to Vision for Souls Family Worship Center to present The Resume Lounge to career fair attendees. A big congrats to this church for taking action to help members of their congregation and the community find employment! We had a stead stream of people at the workshop and challenged attendees to pay it forward by helping the next person who is struggling in a job search.

Something hit me a few months ago–if everyone I met who was searching for a job tried to helped someone else connect with a prospective employer, how long would any those people remain unemployed? Have you tried to help someone else?

My Sister’s House

A little over a week ago, I visited My Sister’s House with a group of volunteers. I really want to thank everyone for getting up early on a Saturday morning to talk to the ladies at the shelter and help with their resumes (Big thank you to Pamela, Rita, Angela, Amber, and Romona). All total, we were expecting 4 volunteers but ended up with 6. (Did I mention that this was at 8AM? Just had to repeat that). The end result? We edited and wrote resumes for 12 women that day.

Origins of Resume Lounge

I was looking through some pictures today and it made me realize how much we’ve grown in just a few months. One of the mainstays for the workshop has been Church of Christ Bouldercrest, where the workshop was officially introduced last year. The people there are always great and have been really enthusiastic. Our biggest supporter has been Brian (picture to the left) and we can’t thank him enough for all of his help.

So–in honor of this great bunch of people, here are some pictures.

Careers & Coffee is a small network driven group started by members of The Resume Lounge. I started this group to help members get their resumes together, meet other professionals, and start making connections to get their careers moving. Oh, and did I mention the tasty coffee and bagels?
